The Indian Maritime University (IMU) was established on November 14, 2008, under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. It serves as a teaching-cum-affiliating university, aiming to enhance maritime education, training, and research.   • Alternative Eligibility:
  • B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Electronics (55% in final year).
  • B.E./B.Tech. from AICTE-recognized colleges (50% in final year).
  • Age Limit: Same as B.Sc. Nautical Science
  • Marital Status: Unmarried


B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) – Residential

  • Educational Qualification: 10+2 (PCM Average: Minimum 60%) with at least 50% marks in English.

  • IMU-CET: Mandatory

M.Tech. (Marine Technology) – Non-Residential

  • Eligibility:B.E./B.Tech. in Marine Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture (Minimum 55%).
  • Candidates with GATE scores are exempt from IMU-CET but given preference.
  • MEO Class I Certificate holders can also apply.
  • Age Limit: No restrictions

Physical Fitness & Medical Standards

For Marine Programs

  • Candidates must meet medical fitness standards specified by the Director General of Shipping (DGS), Mumbai.
  • A medical fitness certificate from a DG Shipping-approved doctor is mandatory.
  • Eye sight and hearing standards must meet DGS requirements as per the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000.
  • Candidates should get medically tested before applying, as failure to meet standards will result in disqualification, and fees will not be refunded.
